Welcome to the First Baptist Church of Whitesburg web site. We are a Southern Baptist Church located in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. Whitesburg is the county seat town of Letcher County with a population of about 1200. We are situated downtown off highway 15 about ten miles from the Virginia state line. As you can see from our logo, our motto is "His Light Unto the Mountains", and our goal is "ministering to the people of the mountains." These ideals held true in 1909, when First Baptist Church was founded, and remain true nearly 100 years later!

First Baptist Church of Whitesburg defines our purpose through eight ministry areas. --> More info

For many years, First Baptist Church has been one of the strongest and leading churches in eastern Kentucky. God has blessed us with great leadership, committed workers and a heart for missions. Through the century, FBC Whitesburg has been responsible for starting and nurturing over thirty mission churches and preaching points. Several local churches began as mission churches. Just to name a few: Colson, Premium, and Craft's Colley. Presently we support Eolia Baptist Mission Church on Pine Mountain. You really must come to Whitesburg and visit our church to know what we mean when we say, "this is a great church and rich in history. God is still blessing!

We invite you to browse through our pages and learn what God is doing here in Whitesburg. Feel welcome to sign our Guestbook and share with us your prayer concerns and your praises. We would love to hear from you! First Baptist Church is also a praying church. We believe in the power of prayer and send out prayer cards weekly to people we have prayed for. We will be glad to include you and your concerns in our prayer ministry. Enjoy your visit with us!

Two passages of Bible scripture help us to form our purpose as a church and enable us to live it out in our lives.

Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Mark 12:29-31"The most important( commandment), answered Jesus, is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.

You can easily make this a point to YOUR company OR hide it all together.
